Guest Speaker District Governor David Jones

Update on the District

David’s first experience of Rotary was when he was a member of the Rotaract Club of Noarlunga from 1978 until 1985. During that time he met and married Lyn, a teacher at Murray Bridge and a Rotaractor from the Rotaract Club of Mobilong. Thirty three years later they are the proud parents of three adult sons with tertiary degrees in Law and Engineering, two of which are now living and working interstate and all of whom became engaged in 2019.

David commenced his working career with the Savings Bank of SA in 1974. After completing a Diploma in Banking, he worked in Head Office Accounting and Credit Management.

In 1996, David joined Australia Post to undertake a role as Contact Manager for SA/NT during which time he worked on several pricing and contract system projects in Australia Post headquarters in Melbourne before retiring in 2016.

David joined the Rotary Club of Mitcham in 2003, and served as President in 2007/08. From 2006 to 2010 he was a member of the District 9520 RYLA/RYPEN and Youth Exchange Committees and in 2012 became a member of the combined Districts 9500/9520 Indigenous Health Scholarship Committee until recently.

In May 2011, he was a team leader for the 9520 Group Study Exchange Team that visited D2350 Sweden for 4 weeks. He has also served as District Secretary and Conference Treasurer and in 2017 became Assistant Governor Group 7 which was a role he found very rewarding.

Apart from his Rotary commitments David enjoys a weekly encounter on the golf course. Both he and Lyn enjoy long walks, working in their large garden, travelling and catching up with family and friends.
