‘Understanding Self to Lead Others'
Why do some thrive while others struggle?
a Social Evening with Homz Umrigar
Most of us all are all too familiar with the following: One leader succeeds with an inventive, self-motivated team that sparks innovation and creativity. Another successfully navigates massive change stemming from a move into new markets. But put the first one, who is loath to micromanage, at the helm of the second team and things start to unravel. Similarly, put the second one, who thrives on rigorous protocol, in charge of the free-spirited thinkers of the first team and morale will plummet.
Context can make the difference between a leader's success or failure. We are all leaders of our own realms. Fellow club member Homz Umrigar will show us how self-aware leaders recognize their strengths, potential blind spots, and understand their tendencies toward stress and conflict. And the more people understand themselves, the more able they are to adjust their leadership attributes. Self-awareness is a critical capability to effective leadership in everyday life.
Leadership is an important theme of Rotary, so join us at our May Social evening to hear Homz talk to us about leadership in practice and the importance of context and self-awareness. We meet on Tuesday, May 18th, 5:30pm for a 6-7pm meeting at our regular venue, Waverley House (St.Andrews Hospital, 360 South Terrace, CBD). Prior registration (and payment) on the club website is strongly encouraged, and our usual $15 fee will get you free drinks, snacks, great fellowship, and a great conversation about leadership.
