The Relevance of Holocaust Museums and Education Today - Why does Adelaide need a Holocaust museum?
The Holocaust was an unprecedented attempt to murder all European Jews and thus to extinguish their culture; it fundamentally challenged the foundations of human values. In November 2020, the Adelaide Holocaust Museum and Andrew Steiner Education Centre opened its doors. The Holocaust still raises many questions that about how and why the Holocaust happened in a modern and civil society, and what made it possible. The Holocaust matters because it is one of the most, if not the most, extensively documented instance of atrocity, hatred, dehumanization, and apathy in world history. An exploration of AHMSEC’s permanent Holocaust exhibition and education program this presentation will demonstrate what we can learn from the past responsibly and inspire us all to stand up against racism and antisemitism and actively contribute to a fairer, more just and compassionate world.
