The Lisa Fahey Foundation – A Little Help When It Matters Most

The Lisa Fahey Foundation was established in 2005 in memory of Lisa Fahey, whose own experience with cancer inspired her and her husband, Stephen, to help other families facing the same challenges.

During Lisa’s illness, they experienced firsthand how a cancer diagnosis can turn family life upside down, not just emotionally and physically, but financially too. When a parent or carer is unable to work, the everyday bills still arrive, and the financial pressure can add to an already difficult time.

Today, the Foundation provides practical, timely financial assistance to South Australian families experiencing hardship while a parent or carer undergoes cancer treatment. Working alongside hospital social workers, we help with everyday essentials such as electricity, gas, council rates, car registration and other household expenses. We aim to make the process as simple as possible, often providing assistance within 24 hours, so families can concentrate on what really matters – each other.

Since 2005, we have helped more than 500 South Australian families, thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses, community groups and our wonderful volunteers.

You may notice that our logo features a chook. There is a lovely story behind that! Lisa affectionately called just about everyone “Chook” – it was her way of showing warmth, friendship and love. Using the chook as our logo is a small but special way of keeping Lisa’s personality and spirit alive in everything we do.

We are a small, volunteer-run charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, and we are proud that donations go directly towards helping families when they need it most.
