The CFS you didn’t know you needed: community resilience through prevention rather than response
Alison May is Director Community Risk and Resilience, leading CFS efforts to empower and inform the South Australian population to be prepared for emergencies and contributing to resilient communities. As a social scientist with academic qualifications in politics, Asian studies, international relations, program evaluation and operations research, her professional passion centres around organisational cultures and human behaviour in operational systems. Her 20 year Defence career began in performance assessment of Defence with the Australian National Audit Office, before joining Defence’s Strategy Group, working in strategic policy, long term capability development and assessment of the effectiveness of ADF international operations. She then commenced as a Defence Science and Technology strategic analyst, leading research on information inputs to strategic planning, as well as culturally appropriate indicators of progress in international engagement and stabilisation operations. The application of her expertise has included eight operational deployments to the Middle East and Asia Pacific. After holding senior management positions in cyber, intelligence and commercial evaluation of international development programs, Alison was honoured to take up her current role with CFS devoting her energy and expertise to the wellbeing of her home state.
