Guest Speaker Henry Olonga

Henry Olonga’s life story: From international cricket to music performance and public speaking

Former International test cricketer and 'The Voice' contestant Henry Olonga has rediscovered his passion for live music performance and public speaking.

The former international cricketer who represented Zimbabwe in Test and ODI cricket in 80 matches and taking 126 international wickets, has performed with the likes of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the SA Army band and the SAPOL band. It’s a far cry from Mr Olonga’s first taste of the stage when he was selected to play a girl in a play at an all boys school in Zimbabwe.

“I first stepped on stage when I was 13 as part of the girl’s chorus,” Mr Olonga said.
“It was the springboard for me and I graduated to become a tenor in many school productions. I never thought I would perform with an orchestra or some of the world's most amazing musicians or choirs.
After fleeing Zimbabwe in 2003 following my protest against the despotic Mugabe regime I went on to play in a team of retired cricketers in England. The team included Jason Gillespie and Greg Blewett and many other great world class cricketers."

Olonga travels the world sharing the incredible story of his survival and also subsequent career changes.

''It is a real privilege for me to share my life's story with any who care to hear it and in spite of almost dying three times, I relish every day as if it is my last''.

He will sing songs and tell a bit about his story.
